Julio Cezar Motta Catedral
Bio:
Julio Cezar was born in Nilopolis in Rio de Janeiro's outback on May 10th of '72,
began studying music in piano in local conservatory, after he took some years of
piano lessons he started having interest in acoustic guitar and drums. That was
when his brother Kim gave him a bass... When he first played, it was like magic,
because he felt like he had been playing it for ages. As a kid with his new toy,
Julio likes to say that "it wasn't me who picked the bass, the bass picked me!!!"
When he was just about to turn 16, after 4 or 5 months playing only inside his
house, he recorded his first LP in '88 joining the band Catedral(1988-present). In
his first work he became known as one of the greatest gospel bassist in Brazil.
After 3 years playing and recording many albums he decided to study bass in a
music school in RJ that the owner had studied in Berklee College Of Music, and
had the happy surprise to finish the course of two years in one month and a
half!!! In that time he started to teach bass and start a music school with his
brother, Jose (in memorian) where he worked as principal for more than 14 years.
As the time passed by, the band Catedral became the greatest gospel band in
Brazil selling more than 2 million copies, receiving many awards, then the record
label Warner invited Catedral to join the pop music market. He agree along to the
other band members and in '99 they start a brand new journey in national rock,
the band start making success in radio all over the country and in many TV
channels as the Brazilian Mtv, MultiShow and many others music channels.
Nowadays, Julio Cezar has sold more than 3 million copies in Catedral and has
recorded 3 DVDs. Julio, apart from being a musician he's a record producer and
has already recorded more than 40 albums (in Catedral and with other artists), his
first totally instrumental album which he recorded with his brother, titled 'Duo
Project' that put him as one of the greatest Brazilian bassists!!! With impressive
velocity and ferocity in his executions and he's adored by music and bass lovers
who have good taste all over Brazil. And the first in Brazil and maybe in the
world to use a Piccolo bass in a rock band and do all the solos instead of using an
electric guitar!!! Julio Cezar is becoming a completely differentiated musician in
and outside of Brazil!!!
Comments:
The first thing that called my attention was the visual, that I thought that was
something incredible!!! After play it I was impressed at the power of the brand
new Lace Alumitone pickups, the bass is also very comfortable and such a
marvelous instrument!!! Thank Lace about the Helix bass...
